Meet Nigeria’s new Minister of State for Education

  • Professor Anthony Anwuka was born on April 22, 1951 in Egbuoma, Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State.
  • He graduated from the Department of English Language and Literature at Fourah Bay University, Sierra Leone in 1974.
  • He holds a Masters degree in Education Administration and Planning at the University of Portland, Oregon, U.S.A. in 1975.
  • He holds a doctorate degree in General Curriculum System Analysis and Social Studies at the University of Washington, U.S.A. in 1977.
  • He was a Senior Lecturer at the University of Maiduguri between 1983 and 1985.
  • He has been Reader, Curriculum Resource Person/ Consultant at the Nigerian National Teachers Institute (NTI), Kaduna between 1983 and 1986.
  • He became Professor of Education at the former Imo State University (now Abia State University), Uturu.
  • He was a former Vice-Chancellor of Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri for five years under the tenure of former Governor Achike Udenwa of Imo State.
  • He has been Member, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), U.S.A.
  • He was formerly Member, Governing Council, Federal College of Education, Kano between 1992 and 1994.
  • Former Member, Imo State University Governing Council (now Abia State University Governing Council), Uturu between 1999 and 2005.
  • He has served, for over twenty years, as External Examiner for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in many Nigerian universities.
  • Professor Anwuka had, in 2001, participated at the Commonwealth Vice-Chancellors Leadership Conference which was held in Dundee, Scotland, United Kingdom.
  • He was sworn in as Minister of State for Education by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, November 11, 2015.
  • Professor Anwuka is expected to serve under Mallam Adamu Adamu, the current Minister of Education.
