The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, has been appointed as the new Chancellor of the University of Benin (UNIBEN).
Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Faraday Orunmwese, disclosed this to newsmen at a press briefing last Monday.
The briefing was organised as part of events to mark the university’s 41st convocation ceremony and 45th Founder’s Day ceremony.
According to Professor Orunmwese, Emir Sanusi II would be formally installed as the institution’s new Chancellor on November 25.
He stated that the management of the university had concluded plans to ensure a smooth installation of the Emir as the university’s ninth Chancellor.
The UNIBEN boss further disclosed that out of a total of 11,020 students of the institution who are expected to be awarded first degrees in different categories, 64 had qualified to be awarded first class honours degrees while 7,034 others would graduate with other classes of first degrees.
Education Post recalls that Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) under the tenure of former President Goodluck Jonathan following which he was suspended.
